Who knew?

Who knew Ryan would be so good at soccer?
(He's #10)

Ryan wanted to play Friday Night Lights flag football in the spring and since we missed the sign-ups (and it was over $100!!) he needed to pick something else to play.  He decided to try soccer one more time.  I wasn't too thrilled with this choice for a couple reasons:  1. Jacob plays club soccer and it was nice to have the boys in totally different sports so then they could each have their own thing  without the competition.2.   the last season he played (2 years before) he always asked his coach if he could be on defense so he wouldn't have to run and could wait for the ball to come to him and then he'd kick it to the other side of the field

Basically he was L.A.Z.Y. and I didn't want to spend the money to watch him do that all over again so we had a little discussion about what I expected from him and to always try his best.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect since Ryan hadn't played for a couple of years but he was a superstar!  He scored multiple goals a game and the coach would put him on defense to give the other team more of a chance (which wouldn't matter because Ryan didn't care what position he was. He would go take the ball and run it down to score!)  During the first game Ryan had scored 3 or 4 goals and the coach told him to hold back.  A couple minutes later Ryan got the ball and broke away from everyone and was all alone with the goalie and then just stopped and waited for someone on his team to catch up so he could pass it to him.  It was hilarious and so cute.  Ryan wasn't trying to be a show-off, he was just playing how he thought he should.

(just had to throw this in because he's so cute!)

We were pleasantly surprised that Ryan was so successful and I know Ryan was pleased and surprised with himself as well.  His team won all of their games except their last game which was a huge bummer.  Not to blame the refs but we actually scored 2 goals (the goalie stepped across the goal line with the ball) that the refs didn't count and our goalie had 2 balls go right through his legs!

Who knew Ryan would be such a star on the soccer field?  He's just growing into his own crazy, aggressive, hard core athlete just like his big brother.  I wonder where they get that from? ;)
