I hate strep throat and Obama-care!

Since I'm catching up with each kids' activities at the end of the school year, we can't forget about strep throat that crept in and hit the 3 older kids back-to-back-to-back.  So fun.  I took Ryan to the pediatrician knowing what it was and hoping they would give me an antibiotic because he was dying!  His fever was high, his throat was spotted and extremely sore.  Well, they did the swab test and the test came back negative for strep. What???!!  So no antibiotic.  I was not a happy mother.  They took a swab test for the lab and said they would call me back with the results and if it was positive, they would call in an antibiotic.  Luckily, I still had some meds left over from when Jake had strep 3 weeks before so I just started him on those after 2 days of getting no results back from the lab and my son was losing weight from not being able to eat or swallow anything.

I called the doctor's office everyday for 5 days and still they said the lab didn't have the results back!  Since I was running out of antibiotic I was getting nervous and MAD, I kind of let the nurse have it.  I know it's not her fault but honestly!  My poor child!  After 6 days the doctor called me back personally and told me that Ryan did indeed have strep and it was a strain the doctor hadn't even seen before and needed to look it up to know more about it.  That's why their in-house test came back negative.  I vented to him that I was just glad I had leftover meds to give to him because it could turn into scarlet fever if strep goes untreated.

I can thank Obama's stupid health care rules that they couldn't just give me antibiotics even though Ryan's sibling just had strep (which they've always done for me in the past) because each prescription for strep has to have a lab result as positive or they will get penalized by the government when they get audited.  Moral of the story is to always try to keep some antibiotics on hand since you might have to wait a looooong time before your kid can even get the proper medication when something out of the ordinary happens to them.

Our goal for this school year is to only have 1 round of strep in the family instead of the typical 3 to 4 times a school year.  Fingers crossed!
