This is the 3rd Pinewood Derby we've participated in and so you'd think we'd be pro's at it by now. Not really. We still wait until the last minute to do the cars (even though they were handed out 2 months in advance!) and then it's a mad rush to get it to the weigh-in on time! WHY??????
The boys designed their own cars and Doug cut them just like they wanted. They get to decide how to paint and decorate but since we're procrastinators they get limited choices with what we have in the gargae (hence Jacob's bright pink car!). They seemed very happy with how their cars turned out and that's all that matters, right?
Last year Ryan came in 3rd overall and Jacob's car was the middle of the pack on all his races. This year Jacob came in 3rd and Ryan was middle of the pack. Can I just tell you how happy I was Jacob was in 3rd? Can you imagine what my house would've been like if he had come in 2nd or 1st??!! Phew! The stars were aligned right for us that night :)
Jacob is getting close to 11 (next week!) so this was his last Pinewood Derby. It's exciting for him to be moving on to 11 year old scouts and doing all those fun boy scout things but I have to admit I'm a little sad those sweet innocent Cub Scout days are over for him. Ryan has 1 more Pinewood Derby and then we get a little break before Josh gets his turn. Maybe by then we'll be super-pro and have it done EARLY with no last minute scrambling! We can always dream, right.

I think it's awesome you let them do it on their own. Who cares that it's last minute? (Other than the stress?)
I also think it's cool that you let them do it on their own. That's the whole point isn't it? Is it really true that Jake is going to be 11???!!!! where has the time gone?
I can't believe Jacob is almost 11!! Unbelievable. I mean, I know it's coming up for Beau too, but when I leave a place, somehow I expect everything to stay the same.
