5th Grade Graduate Games!

Since Kindergarten Jacob has looked forward to participating in the 5th grade Graduate Games at his school.  I have to admit that I had been excited for it too because my elementary school had a school "olympics" growing up and I LOVED competing!  There was just something about signing up for my events, training at home for weeks, and my parents coming to support all of us there.  You could always hear my mom cheering from the crowd. (that must be where I get my sideline loudness from!) Jacob signed up for the mile, 100 yard, 220, 440, long jump, and tug of war.

I'm never short on advice and was trying to give Jacob a strategy for his races.  It paid off too!  Even though he is known for his speed, Jake placed 4th in the mile, 2nd in the 100 yard dash, 1st in the 220 and 2nd in the 440!

That's my boy!  1st place baby!

The 3 stooges: Braden, Jake, and Wyatt
(they're not really stooges, just goofy 11 year olds!)

During the break in events, Josh wanted to run the track too and he ran around it NON STOP at least 10 times!  He had a great nap that day.

Their tug of war team wasn't so hot.  Lost both times.  Jake was pretty bummed.

He received a 1st place medal for the 220!

Jake is just a natural competitor and was bummed he only earned 1 medal. I had to remind him that it's ok that he's not the BEST at everything but that he pushes himself to DO his best every time.  It was a great day and emotional for me.  When he rounded the corner in front of the crowd for his mile run and turned on the gas and passed about 30 people to end up in 4th place, I was screaming and crying at the same time.  There's just something about watching your child compete and do their best.  I am so proud of Jacob.

AWESOME job Jake! I think we all got the mom genes in side line loudness. I hope they bring back the olympics at Carollyn's school- cut due to the budget. :(
