First Day of School

Well, we're in our 2nd week of school and totally back in the grind of it all. Can I just tell you how much I H*A*T*E homework? 4 to 6 o'clock is seriously the worst part of my day. Everybody's grumpy, hungry, tired of doing school work, trying to get to sports practices, etc. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Not such a good start to my post. Let me try this again........

We started school last week and we're all just LOVING getting back to our routine! :) Jacob has a male teacher this year which is a new experience for all of us. Jacob absolutely loves his teacher and he seemed pretty good at Back to School Night so we'll see. I always worry about Jacob because he has to work really hard to do well in school and it's nice to have a teacher that can appreciate his efforts.

Ryan had a rough first day at school. He got in the car after school and just started crying when I asked how school was. Come to find out that his teacher took some of Ryan's supplies and put them in her community bins for all the class to use. Ryan did not want any part of that. He was so excited to take his supplies he helped pick out to school and put them in his desk. After a few nights where he went to bed crying because he wanted his stuff back and begging for me to get them back for him, I kinda went through the teacher's bins to fish out Ryan's stuff (I did get permission from his teacher, people!)

School for Ryan seems to come a lot easier so I have the opposite worry with him. He developed into a really good writer in school last year and so far I haven't seen that he's had the opportunity for any journal writing, creative writing, etc. Hopefully that will start up as the year progresses. He's been wanting a journal for awhile now and found one I haven't used yet that was a birthday present. He begged to keep it and I of course told him yes. It's been the cutest thing to see him carry his journal around with him and just stop to write some things every now and then. He's shown me his writings and it's usually about some of the good choices he's made like being honest, being kind to his sister, sitting reverently in church.....just to name a few. I've kept his school journals from last year because there are some true treasures that I still love reading. This new journal of his will be another treasure, for sure.

It's been nice to have some time with Riley and Joshua and to be able to clean and organize. Riley starts up preschool this week so look for her cute face soon! Here's to 2009-2010!

Okay, that is SAD about Ryan and his supplies. What the heck?

Well the good news in all of this is that you aren't raising a liberal! Go Ryan, those are your things, you keep them, and YOU can choose what you want to share with whom!! Good job Kristen.

That really was sad about Ryan's supplies. After reading your post, I am NOT looking forward to our first week of school. Just the thought of homework, me going back to work, Rhett being babysat and softball practice overwhelms me...not to mention school starts the day after we get back from vacation!

Funny comment Cheryl. Hope Ryan recovers from his "community bin" experience. Your boys are so great and I wish the best for them too. It is hard to believe you have 4 just cuz I so easily remember the days when it was just Jacob and Ryan. We miss you. I will have to make a point to come visit again with Rex. I hope we can add to our family cuz I think Rex needs a sibling sooner rather than later.
