It's been a couple weeks since school started and I'm finally starting to feel like we're getting into a good routine around here. Jacob had a hard time adjusting to 1st grade but enjoys going now and is better about coming home, getting a snack, and getting his homework done. Now that it's a routine, he doesn't fight it anymore. I asked him what his favorite thing at school and of course he said............recess. DUH! After recess, he said his favorite thing is math. He must take after his mom! Soccer is going well for him. He mostly plays defense but is really wanting to play goalie. This last week at practice his coach finally let him play it. He didn't really remember he could touch the ball with his hands and would try to kick it out of the goal instead of just picking it up. Oh well. I don't know if he'll get another chance but at least it quieted him down a bit.
Ryan is really enjoying preschool and is doing really well remembering his letters and doing his "homework" with me in the afternoons. When Riley goes down for her nap, Ryan and I work in his workbooks. He writes his letters, does math and reasoning skills, etc. The only way I can get him to do that without a temper tantrum is to promise him he can watch a little show or play a few minute of video games. We always have to read aloud 2 books together after our workbook pages so I feel like it's a good balance for the few minutes of tv time. Anyway, he's progressing well. He seems to pick up on stuff really quickly which is nice. Soccer for him is getting better. His last game they actually scored 2 goals and got to play some of the time on the other side of the field! It was a little more tolerable to watch. He loves it no matter what and has a blast with his best buddy, Hannah Jane. Those two together are a crack up. They're into a lot of make believe play and I have to keep my eye on them because sometimes when they're playing house, they are the mom and dad and want to kiss like a mom and dad. Not so good with 4 year olds. Anyway, they are cute together.
Riley is still a total joy and seemed to have grown up a lot lately. She loves playing with the boys and they are pretty good about letting her play along. She loves to dig in the dirt pile with them and play on the swing set with them. She follows them around when they're here. Hopefully one day she'll learn how to say "Jacob" instead of calling them both "Ryah". It's super cute though.
As for us, Doug finished with the base boards a couple weeks ago and now we're painting our bedroom funiture and getting to do the upstairs bathrooms. He's going to make the vanities at work which will save us a lot of money. We're trying to stay motivated doing our projects. Doug is helping me to keep moving.
Sorry this is so long, but I feel like it's been awhile. Hope you're doing well.
